A weekend trip to Alta

I got my first (and last) weekend off work, so I was finally able to visit my father and other lovely people in Alta (a town a mere two hours drive from here). Since my brother has got both a car and a license to drive it, he was given the enormous responsibility of getting us to Alta. Alive. And we actually made it there without the car burning up or being stopped by the cops! Who would have guessed it?

After a long day of work followed by a drive to Alta, our stomachs started telling us it was time to get some nutrition. And what better nutrition is there than a kebab plate consisting of kebab (d’oh), French fries, salad and garlic dressing? Delicious and healthy at the same time (hey, the tiny salad portion has to count for something!). We even got our father to join us, and since he was feeling ever so generous, he even agreed to pay for the whole damn thing. We were off to a good start. Since it was getting late already, the rest of the evening consisted mainly of chatting (the real kind, where you actually talk face-to-face with other people), surfing (no, not the real thing with the surf board and the blue waves) and a walk along the sea. The latter is actually quite soothing due to the beautiful surroundings up here.

The almighty weather Gods had a surprise in store for us on Saturday; instead of being awakened by rain and wind, we actually woke up to around twenty degrees Celsius and warm sun beams. This is far from normal up here, so everyone was running around the house singing songs and dancing (well, almost). At least I was feeling happy about it. The weekend was just getting better and better, and for once this summer, I think I actually felt a sweat drop or two on my forehead. At one point I was even contemplating applying some sunscreen, but then I decided to drop it and just continue living on the edge of life. That’s how badass I am.

My brother and I were hoping to do some shopping in Alta, but finding nice clothes in Alta proved impossible. Honestly, what’s up with clothes these days? I couldn’t find a single shirt I liked. Either I expect too much or all the designers are blind or on drugs. Or perhaps you have to be on drugs to like the clothes? On the other hand, my brother saw some shirts he liked, but for some reason he didn’t end up buying them. I guess they weren’t all that, or maybe the stiff price had something to do with it. The shopping endeavor wasn’t a complete failure though; my brother decided to ditch his old, shabby-looking shoes and get some new ones. And they didn’t set him back more than about ten Euros. And this was in Norway! That’s like finding water in Sahara or a woman without an STD in Africa!

The rest of the day was spent doing two things: grilling and going to the movies. It took a while before the grill was ready for work (due to bad coal, apparently), so I played around with my third sister’s camera meanwhile (yes, Linda!). I felt like a little paparazzi as I was running around the terrace and the garden, taking photos of everyone. Multiple times. I had fun and I dare say I managed to take a couple of really good photos. If only my friends were celebrities, I could have earned major scrilla selling these photos to the tabloids. Maybe someday, eh? I love gadgets and so I fell in love with Linda’s camera after taking just a few photos. Love at first shot in other words. Now I’m seriously considering getting myself one of those bad boys. We’ll see what happens. Perhaps I should consider becoming a photographer. ;)

Anyhow…after devouring some delicious grill food, we went to the movies to see “Knight and Day”, which is an action-comedy starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. I had no expectations, neither did my brother, Linda or Helen (Linda’s friend, who also tagged along). The movie was alright, and it definitely had its moments, but I didn’t feel very impressed by it. I ended up giving it a 6/10 in the end. Some of the action sequences were good, but Cruise was funnier when he was jumping on Oprah’s couch a couple of years ago.

Now I’m back in Hammerfest and tomorrow it’s back to work again. I had a really great weekend though, so I felt like writing a “short” post about it. This is something I decided to do for myself, but also for those of you who want to read what I’ve been up to. Most other days just consist of work, surfing and TV, so there’s not really that much to write about these days. Of course I could write about the lovely customers at work, their funny jokes and whatnot, but I feel I’ve written enough about it. At least for now. Speaking of work, I only got three weeks left. Strange how fast time goes sometimes. Still looking forward to going to Oslo and Barcelona next month. I miss my girlfriend too, so it’ll be nice to see her next month as well. A lot of love to all my friends out there too. <3 Peace out!
